SPEAKER: Mike Garrison

TOPIC: History of Apple Valley

Mike Garrison was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. Mike attended the University of Washington for two years, then Fresno State University for three years, completing a BS in Business Administration. He later received an MS in Urban and Regional Planning from Mankato State University

Mike served in the US Navy Flight Program for five years, which included two tours in Vietnam. He then flew for Northwest Airlines as a commercial pilot for 33 years.

In 1967, Mike moved to Lebanon Township, Minnesota. In 1968, he was elected to Apple Valley’s first City Council. Mike served as either Councilman or Mayor of Apple Valley until 1982. Mike also served as the Dakota County Representative to the Metropolitan Council of Land-Use Advisory Committee and engaged in developing the acquisition of Valleywood Golf Course.

Since retiring in 1982, Mike has remained actively interested in Apple Valley affairs.

For the meeting of September 2, 2026 there are 49 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $72.00. Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $3 for 5 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot.  If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot.  If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again.
