Kids ‘n Kinship

Kids ‘n Kinship is a non-profit mentoring organization serving Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Rosemount and Lakeville. Since 1973 years they have been providing long-term friendships to children ages 5-16 who are in need of a positive adult role model. What makes the program unique is mentors can be individuals, couples or families.

To accommodate a variety of schedules and interest they offer two different mentoring programs. In community-based mentoring, volunteers spend one to four hours a week with their mentee doing activities such as baking cookies, going fishing, or attending one of their quarterly events. In the school-based program, volunteers spend a half-hour per week with their mentee at school during the school year assisting with academics and modeling the importance of doing well.

Through their Kids 'n Kinship relationship, youth receive positive attention, experience a variety of activities, are helped to develop the sense of self-worth that is essential to successfully functioning in school, in healthy relationships, and eventually on the job. Kids 'n Kinship empowers volunteers, families and youth to maximize skills and resources to build a stronger community. The program has an ongoing need for mentors to befriend the youth on the waiting list!
