Topic: Savants of the Universe, a Brief History of the Meter and the Dollar
Have you purchased a lottery ticket recently? If so, you probably parted with a couple of pictures of George Washington in hopes of winning several pictures of Benjamin Franklin. To fully break with England, the US needed its own monetary system. How did the dollar get its start? The metric system is used by all scientists and most of the world to measure physical quantities. How did that happen? This brief talk will explore these questions, the savants who conceived the meter and the dollar, and the surprising connection between the two.

For the meeting of TBD, 2021 there are 32 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $460! Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $3 for 5 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot. If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot. If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again. Congratulations to Kevin Lovegreen for drawing the Ace of Diamond and Bruce Nordquist for drawing the Ace of Club. They are guaranteed 1/4 of the pot!
