TOPIC: County Updates
Mary Hamann-Roland is commissioner of Dakota County District 7 — representing residents in the cities of Apple Valley and Rosemount. She credits collaboration as the key to her success in public service. Hamann-Roland served as a school board member for six years, was Apple Valley mayor from 1998–2020 and has served on the Dakota County Board since 2021.
The arts are central to Hamann-Roland’s service to communities — on the national and local levels. She chairs the National Association of Counties’ Arts and Culture Commission, which launched “Art as a Blueprint Forward.” She was founder and president of the Apple Valley Arts Foundation and was appointed as a liaison to the Dakota County Public Arts Commission.
Hamann-Roland also founded the nationally recognized School of Environmental Studies in Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District.
In addition to her role as county commissioner, Hamann-Roland serves on many committees: Association of Minnesota Counties Premiere Business Partnership Committee; Association of Minnesota Counties Public Safety Committee; Dakota County Community Development Agency Board; Dakota County Regional Railroad Authority (chair); Dakota-Scott Workforce Development Board; Greater Metropolitan Workforce Council; Cannon River One Watershed One Plan (alternate); Metro Alliance for Healthy Families Governing Board; Metropolitan Emergency Services Board; Metropolitan Mosquito Control District Commission; National Association of Counties (NACo) Arts and Culture Committee (chair); National Association of Counties (NACo) Healthy Counties Committee (vice-chair); National Association of Counties (NACo) Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee (vice-chair); National Association of Counties (NACo) Programs and Services Committee (vice-chair); and the Vermillion River Watershed Joint Powers Board.
Hamann-Roland lives in the City of Apple Valley.

For the meeting of May 14, 2025 there are 52 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $10.00.Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $3 for 5 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot. If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot. If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again.
