What's New This Week!

SPEAKER: Michael Callero, Founder of Big Blue Crayon

TOPIC:  How Marketers Use Applied Psychology to Influence You - Part 2

Michael “Mike” Callero returns with more to share after speaking on 7/9/25.

Mike has developed consumer research and insights throughout his career.  He is currently the Founder of Big Blue Crayon, where he trains organizations to transform their insights into business influence.
Most recently, Mike was the Vice President of Consumer Insights at Allina Healthcare, a Minneapolis health system, where he launched one of the first consumer insights functions of its kind in healthcare.  He has been the head of consumer research for Walgreens and a research leader at Best Buy and other organizations.

Early in his career, Mike learned the power of determining consumers’ needs and translating them into great business decisions.  He clearly remembers the moment at the pre-Google search engine AltaVista when he saw firsthand how consumers flock to human-centered designs.  Instantly, he saw his calling:  make things work the way people would expect them to.

Mike’s consumer curiosity sprang from the specific fabric of his educational background.  He received bachelor’s degrees in both Advertising and Psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia.  Mike earned his master’s degree in Market Research from Southern Illinois University.  He is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Weekly RedApple Update

For the meeting of August 20, 2025 there are 41 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $102.00. Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $3 for 5 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot.  If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot.  If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again.
