SPEAKER: Jim Lynch, Allison Chuick, and Erin Wodward
TOPIC: E3 STEM Program
E3 STEM goal: To inspire a wider spectrum of youth to pursue careers in STEM
With individual career counseling and professional mentors, students gain educational + exploration opportunities through a variety of employer partner engagement and eventually employment in STEM.
E3 STEM is a funded by the Federal Department of Labor through the Youth Career Connect grant program.
Help us ring in International Women's Day with our first ever Days for Girls event. We'll be creating re-usable sanitary kits to help girls around the world manage their periods.
Why does this matter? The kits we make “have become a stigma eraser, a confidence builder, and a girl-power enabler.” A study in Bangladesh showed that 40% of girls reported missing at least one day of school a month due to menstruation. Days for Girls Kits build confidence and serve as a gateway to open vital conversations around health, safety, and leadership.
Details are still being determined, but add this to your calendar, now!

The Apple Valley Police are now taking registrations for the 2018 Teen Police Academy which starts Feb. 1, 2018. The academy is a joint venture with the Rosemount Police Department. Students of high school age currently attending high school or living in Apple Valley or Rosemount are eligible to apply.
Join us on Sunday, January 28th from 1-4pm at the Apple Valley American Legion for a dinner to end polio. Tickets are $10 per person - see your favorite Rotarian or email karen.kirkman@midcountrybank.com to get yours. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will contribute $2 for every dollar raised to end polio.
For the meeting of January 24, 2018 there are 9 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $1,481! Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot. If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot. If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again. Congratulations to Bruce Nordquist for drawing the Ace of Hearts and Ed Corbett for drawing the Ace of Diamonds. They are guaranteed 1/4 of the pot!
The person in bold each month is that month's group chair to help facilitate communication. Once your group lines up speakers, please let Justin Burleson know so he can update the calendar and Gwen will update the bulletin. Thanks everyone for your work lining up speakers and hopefully this new process will further stimulate Rotary member interaction.
Please contact Justin Burleson with your speaker's topic and biographical info.
