When Guy Gunner's name was pulled as the winner of a 2014 Ford Focus on Saturday, Oct. 25, he wasn't the only winner at Apple Ford-Lincoln: our entire community  will benefit from the $49,000 raised in this year's Apple Valley Rotary raffle fundraiser.

Mayor Mary Hamann-Roland drew the winning tickets at the raffle celebration at Apple Valley Ford, which included live music and catering by Rascal's . Other raffle winners include Joanna Perkins , who won a gas grill (donated by Warners' Stellian) and Burnsville Rotarian Dick Manley, who took home $500 cash.

This year, the 49-member Rotary club sold 3,218 raffle tickets and netted $49,500 for the Apple Valley Rotary Foundation, exceeding last year’s total of $41,000. Since starting the fundraiser in 2006, approximately $260,000 has been raised. Every dime is given back to local community initiatives and Rotary International projects, such as defeating polio worldwide.

Dist. 196 Booster Clubs, under the direction of Steve Degenaar, sold 593 raffle tickets and will share in proceeds from their sales, receiving $5,930.

President Bruce Nordquist thanked club leaders, committee members and fellow Rotarians for their great effort to make the fundraiser such a success. The Club presented a plaque to Apple Ford-Lincoln and employees in appreciation of their support.

Apple Valley Rotary undertakes many local service projects, including: distributing dictionaries to school children; providing college scholarships to high school kids; presenting annual Teacher of the Year recognition; highway clean-up; supporting Beyond the Yellow Ribbon; volunteering at the Lewis House and more. Interested in becoming an Apple Valley Rotarian? We'd love to have you!

Bill Tschohl visited the noon Burnsville Rotary Club Monday, November 3 to present check for $500.00 to member Dick Manley, third place winner.

Dictionary Project

For the past several weeks, 29 members of the Apple Valley Rotary Club have been busy  presenting free, 500-plus page dictionaries to third-grade students in the 15 elementary schools of District 196, which covers Apple Valley, Rosemount and Eagan. The club has also provided dictionaries to about five church schools in the district. Each dictionary is labeled with a sticker stating Rotary's Four-Way Test.

Rotary members often hear from students that this is the first book they have owned where they can write their name inside and keep forever.

Each dictionary costs about $2; funding for this project (and others) comes from the Apple Valley Rotary Scholarship Foundation, supported by the club's annual car raffle fundraiser. Club member Mark Bodin has spearheaded this project for the past 5 years.

We've gotten a good response on our Rotary communication survey, sent via email last week, but are still looking for more opinions. If you haven't already, click here to visit the survey, which will ask about how you connect with our club, what types of communication you prefer, what you like and dislike about our current club structure, etc. Answers are 100% confidential and the survey will take no more than 10 minutes.  We will close the survey out the week of 11/3/14.  Don't miss your chance to help us improve!

The pot stands at $151

The Ticket Donations are $1 - 1 ticket; $2 - 3 tickets; $5 - 10 tickets; $10- 25 tickets.  There are three lucky winners each week - the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot.  If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot.  If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace, and the drawing starts over again.
