What's new this week?

On Wednesday, February 25, the Club Assembly will feature the most recently requested information by members:
  • Scott Ramsdale returns to summarize where the Apple Valley Rotary Scholarship Foundation distributes the hard earned resources of the Club. He will also answer those questions you may have about who is on the Foundation Board, how often do they meet, how to make requests to support community projects you might have in mind, or leverage larger efforts with resources from other Clubs, District 5950 and the Rotary Foundation.
  • Eva Cheney-Hatcher will announce the leadership slate for the Club to consider for 2015/2016.
  • Bruce Nordquist will further discuss how we communicate what we do, how we help in the community and ideas for attracting new members.
It’s so much more than just breakfast!  See you there!

Feb 25 Weekly Raffle Update

For the meeting of February 25, 2015 there are 49 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $86.

Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot.  If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot.  If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again.

Looking to expand your Rotary horizon? Make global connections with two exciting opportunities:
  1. Our club is still looking for host families for a 2015-16 exchange student. Each family will host the student for 3 months during the school year (starting in August). Families should live within Dist. 196, preferably near Apple Vally High School, or be able to provide consistent transportation to the school. Most of the students' expenses are paid for by Rotary or his/her family, though the host families provide food.

  2. Several international Friendship Exchange trips are being planned by Dist. 5950, including:
  • A two-week trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and surrounding areas, led by Amanda Ottman, is being planned for Oct. 10-24, 2015 or Feb. 6-20, 2016.
  • An 11-day trip to Taiwan, March 12 - 23, conducted thru the Rotary International Travel fellowship.
  • A trip to India March 6-22. Visit Dist. 5950-funded projects at the Nari Gunja girls' school near Patna, the International Village Clinic near Varanasi and Hyderabad/Bangalore. The group will also tour New Delhi, Agra/(Taj Mahal) and Mumbai.
