SpeakerLeanne Woodland

Topic: Canvas Health

Leanne is Chief Development Officer of Canvas Health; is responsible for individual and corporate donor development, marketing, communications, grants, events, and volunteer recruitment and management.

Canvas Health Mission Statement:
Canvas Health is dedicated to offering hope and help to children, adolescents, adults, the elderly and families who struggle with aging, transportation, chemical and mental health, and domestic and sexual abuse. Initially established as a community mental health center in 1969, Canvas Health has grown to become one of the most distinctive private nonprofit human service centers in Minnesota.
We are community-driven and believe that the vitality and stability of our communities rests on the strength of the individuals and families within them. When those with life impairments are helped to live more freely, we are all lifted up. When we help families and individuals recover from mental illness, chemical dependency, physical and sexual abuse, the world becomes a better place for us all. When we help seniors to live independently and troubled children to remain at home and in school, we help restore the fabric of family and community life.

Open your home... and your heart

Apple Valley Rotary is gearing up to host a Rotary Youth Exchange student, starting this August, and we're looking for three host families for the 2015-16 school year.

By hosting a Youth Exchange student in your home, you will make a young person’s dream come true, and you and your family will share an unforgettable and fulfilling experience.

As a host family, you are expected to:
  • provide room and board for up to three months.
  • supervise the student just as you would your own children.
  • involve the student in family activities and chores.
  • enrich the exchange experience by including the student in family and community activities.
The Apple Valley Rotary Club pays for all school lunches and other routine school expenses and provides the exchange student with a small amount of financial support each month.

Our host families must reside within the boundaries of ISD 196 and work as a coordinated team to provide homes for the school year. Students typically attend Apple Valley High School.

Peter Theberath is our club’s Youth Exchange Officer and Tom Lawell is our Youth Exchange Counselor.  Both are dedicated to making sure your host family experience is a huge success. In addition, the Northstar Rotary Youth Exchange Program for our Rotary District 5950 provides great training for host families. You'll have the support you need!

If you are ready to sign up to be a host family or if you have further questions, please connect with either Peter or Tom ASAP.  We need to inform the Rotary District of our willingness to host an exchange student by Jan. 30.

Jan. 21 Weekly Raffle Update

For the meeting of Jan 21, 2015 there are 44 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $299.

Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot.  If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot.  If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again. Ed Corbett pulled the Ace of Diamonds on January 14th and is guaranteed at least 1/4 of the final pot.
