IVC Founder Abul Sharah not only wears two hats, he leads a double life—on two continents 8,000 miles, 11 time zones, and worlds apart. Each year he spends six months in Marufpur, India, managing clinic programs, and six months at his home in Bloomington, Minnesota, raising funds. That’s what it takes to sustain the vital healthcare work of International Village Clinic in the impoverished villages in Uttar Pradesh in the north of India.
From the beginning, Abul has surrounded himself with capable, committed people who understand his mission and who have helped in implementing it. Key team members include Dr. R.K. Pathak and Mr. Nadeem Ashraf, both of whom have been with IVC since its inception in 2002, and Mr. Iftekhar Ahmed, who joined the team in 2010. Over the last few years, Abul has transferred his responsibilities at the clinic to this management trio. They now oversee program operations in India year round, with consultation and guidance from Abul as needed. In the U.S., IVC has a talented and dedicated board of directors that can manage the affairs of the organization in the event of Abul’s demise or incapacitation.
While he has no plans to scale back his involvement, this new arrangement allows Abul to focus his time and considerable energy on plans to start a top-quality school in the same area—nursery to high school.
For the meeting of September 23, 2015 there are 43 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $318.
Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot. If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot. If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again.
