Speaker: Nikki Liqnell
Topic: Spare Key
Nikki Lignell is the Program Director for Spare Key as well as a 2-time Spare Key recipient. In 2004, Nikki gave birth to a baby girl, named Riley, who was born with a rare syndrome called Aicardi Syndrome. In 2009, Riley was hospitalized for pneumonia and a collapsed lung and the doctors did not expect Riley to ever make it home. It was at that time that Nikki was referred to Spare Key by the hospital social worker. It was because of the Spare Key Housing Grant that she was able to focus her attention and time on her daughter and not worrying about her mortgage. Riley was a fighter and proved all of the doctors wrong and after nearly 4 months in the hospital, Riley was able to go home.
In 2011, Spare Key assisted Nikki with her March 1st housing payment after Riley was admitted to Children’s Hospital in St. Paul with another devastating bout of pneumonia. Because of this grant, Nikki was able to take the month of March off from work and spend all of her time with Riley. Sadly, on March 25th, 2011, Riley passed away surrounded by her mom, friends, and family. The time that the Spare Key Housing Grant gave to Nikki and her family by paying her March Mortgage is priceless to them.
Shortly after Riley passed away, Nikki began volunteering for Spare Key and within the year, began working full time as the Program Director. Her primary job is working with the hospitals, hospital social workers, and with the families applying.
Nikki grew up in Northern Minnesota and currently lives in Farmington.

For the meeting of May 5, 2015 there are 39 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $341.
Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot. If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot. If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again. David Kingsbury pulled the Ace of Diamonds on March 18th and is guaranteed at least 1/4 of the final pot.
